Jean-Christophe Carry, PhD Title: Some Challenges in Medicinal Chemistry The Medicinal Chemist faces many hurdles during the optimization process from the Hit molecule to the Clinical Candidate. A review of the most significant ones and how they are tackled will be presented, using specific case studies from the Sanofi Aurora, Phosphoinositide-3 Kinase (PI3K) and MDM2-p53 oncology programs.
Carine CULOT-RYPENS, PhD Title : Reaxys - or how to leverage chemical knowledge into creativity and innovation Reaxys can be summarized in four words : Accurate answers for chemistry research. But How Reaxys delivers the right answers? Even superior search technology can only deliver all the right answers if it accesses a comprehensive collection of relevant material. With Reaxys and Reaxys Medicinal Chemistry, users can be confident that answers received are accurate and relevant as they come from an expertly curated and indexed collection of content that uniquely combines peer-reviewed literature, patents, conference abstracts, and substance data from publicly available and proprietary databases. Reaxys offers extensive coverage of authoritative information in organic, inorganic and organometallic chemistry dating as far back as 1771.
Nicolas DURUPT, PhD Title: The evolution of the processes for the treatment of ores For most metals, the average grades of the deposits are declining steadily. These 20 last years, the mineral processing (flotation, magnetic sorting, gravity separation…) was presented as the best solution to compensate for the grade reduction. But, now, the future seems to concern a change in the exploitation methods, with cheaper processes such as In Situ Recovery or Heap Leaching. The reduction in ore treatment costs also depends on reagent savings. In the last few years, among the main technological advances, membrane technologies to recycle more reagents allow significant earnings and the use of bacteria in ores can replace some chemical reagents. In hydrometallurgy, after leaching of minerals, solutions are purified by extraction by solvents or by ion exchange resins. The development of new solvents and new resins can make more attractive the exploitation of new sources of metals, such as, for example, the uranium in the phosphoric acid. Also, the development of selective solvents makes easier the exploitation of polymetallic deposits.
